There’s truly no place better to experience the four seasons outdoors than in Maine; and nowhere is that more true than in the Greenville and Moosehead Lake region. From ATVing to boating, hiking to shopping, there is something for everyone to enjoy and we’re here to help you make the most of your family-friendly getaway to Greenville, Maine and Moosehead Lake.

1. Family Hikes near Moosehead Lake

We have 15 of the best day hikes with some of the most spectacular views of  Moosehead lake and the 100 Mile Wilderness starting with Borestone mountain. It is a 4.1 mile hike to the summit where you reach the wide open 360 amazing  view of  Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness. My favorite is Mt. Kineo. It is located in Rockwood, it’s a short ferry ride on Moosehead lake to the Mt. Kineo State park. While here you should check out the golf course and club house. It is a great spot to grab a bite to eat before or after your 3.4 mile hike up the Indian Trail to the summit. Once you have reached the top you’ll find a fire tower that you can climb and see the most beautiful views of Moosehead Lake. Big Moose Mountain is a 4.5 mile hike. It will take you through the woods (bring your bug spray for all of these hikes this time of year) and up to a summit of beautiful views of Moosehead Lake just to name a few. You can find out more at ericsturgeon.com and mooseheadpinnaclepursuit.com

2. Family-Friendly Restaurants in Greenville, Maine

While in Greenville you might want to dine at one or more of the restaurants here. Across the street from our cabins is Stress Free Moose Pub & Cafe. They have several menu choices with in and outside dining and lots of atmosphere. Kelly’s Landing is where it is at in the Junction. This is my favorite place to eat in town with in or outside dinning located right on the water in the West Cove of Moosehead lake. Their fried Haddock sandwich is the best! If your looking for a breakfast spot The Birch Bark is directly a 30 second walk down the street. Not to mention The Dockside, Trailside Restaurant, Flatlanders Pub( got to have some broasted chicken if your here) and the popular West Cove Lounge Wednesday Wing night.

3. Take an ATV Adventure Around Moosehead Lake with the Family

At our cabins your ATV adventure starts when you walk out the door. Who would have thought being covered with dust and mud could be this fun! With so many trails to take and things to see you won’t long for an adventure in the backwoods. If it’s a 2 hour ride your looking for or a full day, you can find it in the Moosehead Lake region. We have trails that can take you to The Forks, Rockwood, or Kokadjo. You will see ponds, mountains, and maybe a Moose. Who doesn’t want to see a Moose! If you don’t own your own Atv you can rent one at Northwoods Outfiters which is located in Downtown Greenville. https://www.maineoutfitter.com/ They also offer guided tours. Always remember to respect the land owners and stay on the trails. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have all of this for everyone to enjoy.

4. Hit the water on Moosehead LAKE

The most popular way to see our lake if you don’t own a boat is the Katahdin. The Kathadin is a historic steamboat built in 1914 at Bath Iron Works. It was used as a towboat to haul lumber on the lake.  Check out the  Moosehead Marina Museum for lots of info on our lake history and steamboats. To check out cruises go to https://www.katahdincruises.com/ . The  public boat launch is in Greenville Jct., with lots of parking and an overflow parking area just a short walk down the street. If your looking for a guided fishing trip you will want to check out Reel Moosehead Guide Service https://reelmoosehead.com/, or Moosehead Area Guide Service. You can find more information at https://www.mooseheadareaguideservices.com/.

5. Rent a Family-Friendly Moosehead Lake Cabin
